Mackinac’s Forgotten Treasures

On this guided bike tour, join Kyle Bagnall, Park Naturalist, on a nature adventure back in time. Starting behind Fort Mackinac, at the Avenue of Flags on Huron Road, we’ll explore features that are long lost, destroyed or forgotten. Along the way, you’re invited to imagine feeding animals at Deer Park, the acrid odor of an old lime kiln, and the sharp report of gunfire at the old rifle range. We’ll listen for echoes of the Musical Well and look for 19^th century spelunkers emerging from a deep cave adventure. We’ll follow a “very highly romantic road” before stopping for milk at Early’s Farm or something stronger at Dousman’s Distillery. In all, our bike route will encompass about 7 miles, before ending at Marquette Park for the evening. Participants should bring a good working bike, a drink of water, and a sense of adventure. This adventure is free, with no preregistration required.
