Mackinac Island is a photographer’s dream. Scenic vistas, majestic horses, Victorian architecture and, of course, the Mighty Mac. But, professional level photography is not for everyone. Enter the selfie. So, I did what any millennial would do and toured the island in hopes of finding the perfect spot to send that “wish you were here” snapchat or text.
Here’s a look at four of the many places on Mackinac Island to get a great selfie:
Mackinac Island’s Arch Rock
One of nature’s wonders, Arch Rock is a must-see sight for anyone visiting the island. As I rode my bike around Mackinac Island, I had to make a stop to climb the 200-plus stairs to Arch Rock. (Don’t worry if you’re not in the climbing mood, it’s also accessible from the other side where many horse-drawn carriages stop while touring Mackinac Island). I always knew Arch Rock was stunning from photos, but seeing it in person gives you a special appreciation for it. Take this opportunity to grab a quick snap in front…while also climbing the stairs to take a selfie back at the water. At Arch Rock, you’re about 150 feet above Lake Huron, giving you a great view.

Devil’s Kitchen on Mackinac Island
A small cave on the southwestern shore, Devil’s Kitchen is accessible while walking or biking the 8-mile loop around Mackinac Island. While it’s a very shallow cave, it attracts many visitors because of its ease of access from the road. The blackened limestone and “mouth-like” shape of the cave make it a perfect photo opp.

Mackinac Island’s Mission Point Resort
One of my favorite places on the island is Mission Point. After a day of exploring all of the shops and restaurants filled with people in downtown Mackinac Island, Mission Point is the perfect place to bring a book on Mackinac Island and enjoy the peace and quiet – and the magnificent views.

Let’s face it, one of the most iconic images from Mackinac Island is the bridge, so no trip is complete without a selfie with the Mighty Mac. And if you’re anything like me, one is probably not enough. As I biked around Mackinac Island, I couldn’t help but stop every half mile to snap another photo of the world-famous suspension bridge. My grandfather worked on the bridge when he was in college, so I’ve always felt a special connection to it and couldn’t help but send my tech-savvy grandpa a selfie with the bridge.
