2008 Seasonal Employment

Mackinac Island is a great place to live and work. Seasonal jobs in the hospitality, retail and horse industries are plenty with many positions are available from May through October. College students are encouraged to apply for peak season summer positions fitting within your summer break dates. Internships are available for hospitality, botany, entomology, landscape architecture, graphic arts majors and more. Most positions offer shared dorm style housing, some offer meal plans.

Most workers on Mackinac Island are college aged students. Students looking for work should be at least 18 years old and able to live in a shared dorm style environment. Housing is directly related to one's job with most employers offering shared housing for a fee generally deducted from your paycheck. It is very difficult to find independent housing on Mackinac Island. For those looking for alternative housing, we recommend searching in and or placing an ad in the Mackinac Island Town Crier. On Island, we recommend checking public notice boards at the banks and local post office. We do not keep housing lists at the Tourism Bureau.

	Wings of Mackinac Butterfly Conservatory Employment positions involve work in the gift shop and educating visitors about the butterflies in the conservatory.

	Cindy's Riding Stable & Jack's Livery Stable Cindy's Riding Stable hires riding guides each summer to do the following jobs at the stable: clean the stables, feed and water horses, groom horses, assist with hourly addle horse rentals and or accompany groups of riders on horseback
	Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Inc. Horse drawn vehicles bring a 19th century charm to the island and Mackinac Island Carriage Tours provides most of this carriage service.The majority of jobs offered by Carriage Tours involve working with horses, working with the public, or in most cases working with both. Therefore, we seek friendly, enthusiastic people who preferably have some horse experience. Preference is also given to individuals who are available for the longest period between May 18th and October 15th. There are also a number of openings for the period between July 1st and late August.
